There are more than 350 different career opportunities, and more than half of the 20 fastest growing careers nationally are in the health care industry. Health Care Careers
Northern Vermont AHEC creates fun and interactive workshops, customized for middle and high school audiences, exploring the possibilities of a career in health care. These workshops can be delivered in-person or online. Contact us to learn more, or visit our website VTHealthCareers.org.
Governor’s Institute on Health and Medicine
The Institute on Health & Medicine is a week-long residential program for Vermont high school students in grades 9 through 11 who are interested in health care and health science. Hands-on lab science activities and clinical skills workshops are lead by college faculty and graduate students. Resources and opportunities will be provided for participants to personalize their career exploration. Check back soon for information on the 2024 Institute on Health and Medicine.
HERO
Fall, 2024 HERO Mentoring Program
The HERO Mentoring Program matches high school students in northern Vermont to trained medical student mentors at the UVM Larner College of Medicine for 1-to-1 online coaching and STEM education. During the fall semester, mentoring pairs connect to discuss goal setting, education planning, human biology, health science, and careers in medicine and beyond. These sessions are scheduled by the participant and their mentor once per week from October to December.
The aim of HERO is to support science achievement and postsecondary pathway planning for Vermont teens. HERO is available at no cost to 9th through 12th graders residing in Caledonia, Essex, Franklin, Grand Isle, Lamoille, Orleans, Orange, Washington, and Chittenden Counties.
