More About The Corps...
Training Curriculum
The Youth Health Service Corps uses a nine-lesson program or “modules” to train students for the volunteer setting. Each lesson contains numerous hands-on activities designed to prepare students to work with people in need in health care settings.
Volunteer Service
After completing the first 3 lessons, or Tier I, students are placed at sites such as community health centers, homeless shelters, soup kitchens, and nursing homes.
Service Learning Projects
Service Learning Projects are a fun way learn about health care because students decide on a project that will meet an actual community need, and they design it and put it in place together. Opportunities already exist to work on Oral Health, Nutrition or Emergency Preparedness. Other ideas could happen based on what students experience at volunteer sites.
