Our Goals
TO PROMOTE AN ADEQUATE AND APPROPRIATE
HEALTH CARE WORKFORCE IN NORTHEASTERN VERMONT'S
RURAL COMMUNITIES
We do this by…
- Supporting rural clinical rotations in our region for medical, nursing and allied health students.
- Administering Vermont’s Primary Care Loan Repayment funds to assist in the recruitment and retention of primary care health providers for our underserved areas.
- Collecting and maintaining current data on the distribution of primary care providers to monitor recruitment needs.
- Organizing regional health careers programs for youth including an innovative health careers camp for high school students.
- Working with the University of Vermont to assist in the development of a medical school curriculum that addresses the educational needs for primary care in rural areas and incorporates interdisciplinary training.
TO PROMOTE CONTINUOUS QUALITY IMPROVEMENT
IN OUR HEALTHCARE SYSTEMS
We do this by…
- Bringing to our six county region continuing education programs for physicians, nurses, and other allied health professionals.
- Developing interdisciplinary strategies for prevention, treatment and education of patients.
- Assisting community hospitals in the region with organizing and providing continuing education programs for their in-service medical education programs.
TO IMPROVE ACCESS TO HEALTH SERVICES AND IMPROVE
THE HEALTH STATUS OF VERMONTERS IN THE
NORTHEASTERN VERMONT AHEC REGION
We do this by…- Supporting community health education efforts, including partnerships with community hospitals to establish Community Health Resource and Education Centers.
- Sponsoring quarterly forums for community health educators.
- Maintaining ongoing collaboration with regional partnership organizations to develop strategies for improving access to health care.
- Supporting community-based research directed at improving the quality of health care services and improving the health status of community members.
